Linkedin is the most popular and perhaps the only professional social media marketing platform.
Consider that you are getting your message in an ocean of 396 million members, don’t you think you would be reaching the right target audience?
If you are running an event and want to promote it, LinkedIn should also be on your top list.
We have already discussed on this topic in the past, but not specifically regarding Linkedin.
As to stay prominent in the eyes of your attendees and clients in this ever increasing competition, it is important to be on Linkedin.
Event managers, we acknowledge the fact that you put a lot of effort in organizing an event, and it would be heartbreaking for you not to get any attendee.
Here are the top 5 ways to promote an event on Linkedin:
1. Promote via using related groups:
Event managers, the easiest way to market your event via LinkedIn is to join groups of members having shared level of interests.
To do this, you can hunt for groups via the search bar at the top, or by clicking the drag down and selecting groups by entering keywords of your interest and then letting LinkedIn to provide you with the suggested groups.
These groups constitute of members having mutual interests, and they mostly use them for self-promotion.
What you have to do is select your most related group, join it and then scroll down through all the discussions and posts. By this, you can observe the most relevant and popular topics among your target audience. Once you find a relevant topic, become a part of the discussion and promote your event.
Make sure that you do not spam. The internet is already brimming with spammers and you do not want to be another one. Rather, be different and post thought-provoking and interesting content.
2. What about creating your own LinkedIn group?
An even better idea to promote via LinkedIn is making your own group, regarding the events you arrange. This would be the best idea when promoting recurring events, to the same potential attendees time after time.
Here you can answer all their queries regarding the event, post links for registration, and share all documents and concerned information with the attendees.
For example, you might have corporate events taking place every year, for your company, or you might be an event planning company that tends to have a LinkedIn group for sharing all of your upcoming events at one place. This way, you can not only create recurring members, but also generate hype and promotion for your clientele events.
3. Recurring status updates on your LinkedIn profile:
As an event marketer, you must do periodic posts on LinkedIn at different times of the day and week, but pertaining to the availability of your target audience on the concerned platform.
While posting, do keep in mind that you mention regarding speakers, venue, registration website’s link etc. Also mentioning regarding the success of your previous events would be an excellent way to create value for your upcoming event.
A good rule of thumb is to post in the time range of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM as that is when most of the professionals are busy online and using LinkedIn.
4. Try direct messaging strategy:
It is a well known fact that LinkedIn, unlike Facebook, does not allow you to send messages to anyone not in your connections. At times, you might want to invest some money in sending messages to people off of your network but highly related to your event.
5. Create showcase pages
Showcase pages on LinkedIn, are just additions to your company pages. Here your potential attendees can follow all the information regarding your event, whether it be related to your speakers, or venue etc. However, you need to continuously update the pages in order to generate leads.
